As we pass the midpoint in the first course towards my health promotion focus of my Master's degree, it is time to do some reflection. To me, health promotion has been something that we have touched on briefly in a number of courses but we have only just tapped into the tip of the iceberg. So far, I have been happy to revisit a number of topics that have come up previously in order to apply those topics and principles without having to jog my memory for information that I learned years ago. One thing I really enjoy about these courses is the abundance of different backgrounds that people come from as these bring out different topics of interest that perhaps I myself would never think of researching but are extremely interesting. Being able to read over different peoples topics and the information they have brought out about them has been of much interest to me so far.
Throughout the course of my degree so far I have chosen topics that I can easily apply back to my professional life. These are topics of interest to me and are things that I am passionate about. Being able to learn more about certain disease processes that I encounter daily in my work and be able to better understand how we can implement change to improve their lives has been a huge source of joy for me in this course so far. The major difficulty for me is accepting that these changes will likely not come about for years due to financial constraints and lack of health care resources that we are facing at present. I look forward to the knowledge and information that will come about in the next 2 courses of this health promotion focus so I can really learn how we can implement these changes in our province and country to improve the lives of such a large population.
