As we enter the final unit of the first class of my health promotion dual focus, it seems like the best time to reflect on the health promotion journey we have taken in this course. While this course did contain some review of health promotion topics that had been covered in other courses throughout the time I have spent in post-secondary, it also contained some information that I will carry through the rest of my degree with. I look forward to continuing this focus and further developing my proposal of improving access to pulmonary rehabilitation programs for the New Brunswick COPD population. I am passionate about the benefits that these programs can bring to the lives of this large population and I hope someday to be a part of that change. While I hope that my participation to this change will be done through the development of my own PR programs and clinic, I also accept the possibility that that may not be the case, only time will tell.
The most important thing that I think I took away from this course is to always self-reflect. This course has brought to light our privilege and implicit biases. Being aware of our own personal biases and recognizing our privilege is the first step in making positive changes to our own lives and the lives of others. I will continue to carry this information with me and do my very best to consider my privilege and biases in not only my professional life, but my personal life as well. I hope to continue my self-improvement over the years using the information I have learned in this course and look forward to continuing my health promotion journey in the semesters to come.
